We all know by now not to share photos with important information, like airline ticket numbers or frequent flyer numbers (or boarding passes). But who knew “Posing for a picture while holding your hands up in a peace sign could pose a security threat”?
From this Telegraph.co.uk story, it seems that hackers are able to recreate fingerprints from such photos that are the key to accessing phones, computers and tablets. According to the post: “Researchers at Japan’s National Institute of Informatics have found that fingerprints can be easily recreated from photos taken up to three metres away without the need for advanced technology. So long as the picture is clear and well-lit, prints can be mimicked.”
If you have photos that you think could compromise your security, take them down. You can also retouch them using this blur app.
