Here’s a website that claims it can hold non-refundable airline reservations for 2, 3, 7, or 14 days. The minute-long video on the site makes seem like a great choice for those who aren’t sure of their plans—including who to travel with. Hold prices issued by the airlines, of course, vary with airlines and dates but can add up quick. I just tried one for a one-way, New York-to-Los Angeles flight in July on American Airlines and the only option to hold was for one day at $16 (see screenshot below).
Then I tried a roundtrip United flight from Los Angeles to London and they only offered a one-day hold for $28 (see screenshot below). Both are a joke since the U.S. Department of Transportation any airline that sells tickets in the US “to hold a reservation at the quoted fare for 24 hours without payment or allow a reservation to be cancelled within 24 hours without penalty (the ’24-hour reservation requirement’).” And on you can hold a reservation for the same fare for 24 hours without even putting down a payment.
I like the concept but so far I haven’t found any flights it’s useful for. Still, worth checking out!
