Boarding passYour Boarding Pass Carries More Personal Information than You Think
First up: Happy New Year!

I’ve written several times about the importance of taking care of your boarding passes. In one past tip, I advised against crumpling your boarding pass so it can be easily read. Another tip was to always hang on to your boarding pass, even once your flight is over, so you can produce it as proof of your flight if you don’t get credit for your miles. I also advised not posting photos of your tickets and boarding passes on social media. More information and the full stories can be found in the links above.

But my wife () recently alerted me to another reason to take care of your boarding pass, based on (video below) from the local CBS affiliate in Boston. It shows that boarding pass bar codes carry personal information, which can be easily exposed with the use of a simple app. After watching the video below, I bet you won’t ever carelessly discard your boarding pass or post photos of it on social media again!

I was reminded by my sister that when she got stranded by the Luthansa airline strike last year, her flight insurance company wanted to have a copy of her boarding pass for reimbursement. (she wound up taking the local train).
