If your earbuds have removable ear pads, be sure to bring some extra pads. I lost a pad when my earbuds got stuck in an airline seat on the way to Australia. I never found the pad and could not use my earbuds for the remainder of my trip. I had to buy some new earbuds in Sydney to get me through the month long trip.

My recent flights use headsets with non-standard music player connectors.

And they also drown out obnoxious talkie seat mates and the inevitable crying baby!
