Travel App of the Week: Swarm

Do you use Foursquare when you travel? If so—and maybe even if not—you’re probably aware that the location-based check-in app just split in two. Well, if you want to continue to check in and find nearby friends, you should download  (as regular Foursquare will now be a competitor to Yelp). , Swarm is pretty simple, and it allows you to easily find your friends for impromptu meetups.

All you need to do is download the app, as it will recognize you at startup. You don’t even need to sign in again. Swarm then tells you which of your friends are “Right Here” (within 500 feet), “A Short Walk Away” (1 miles), “Nearby” (1 mile), “In The Area” (20 miles) and “Far Away.” It’s pretty cool idea when you’re traveling to a city where you don’t think you know anyone, and then you see your buddy is in town, and in a hotel not far away. I’m only friends with people I know and that’s probably good advice for you too.

  1. Checkout Chicago’s new iphone app called 312Go. It’s a “Smart Guide” which means it tracks your location and then the guides talk to you..sharing history and stories about the places you pass and sights that you see.

    Here’s a video simulation:

As you can see in the video, just start the app and the guides and technology will take care of the rest..
