A trapped pod of orcas, commonly known as killer whales, is attracting a lot of media attention today. The whales are trapped in a small ice hole in Canada’s Hudson Bay, about an hour’s snowmobile ride from Inukjuak, Quebec. The Canadian government is sending scientists to assess the situation and to see whether or not the orcas can be saved, but there is growing public demand for intervention. The community of Inukjuak has , as killer whales hunt seals, an animal that is important to the local economy.
