Reader Travel Tip of the Day: Better M60 Update

reader-travel-tip2Better M60 Update
Each Friday, we’re featuring a reader-submitted tip as our Travel Tip of the Day. This week’s tip comes from reader E, who improved Tuesday’s tip on NYC’s M60 bus by correcting a mistake I made with some good New York knowledge:

“M60 is not an express bus (which costs $6.50 as of 3/22/15). It’s a select bus service (SBS) and it costs the same as a regular bus ($2.75 per ride as of 3/22/15). The difference is you pay on the street using the machines instead of on the bus, which means you just board the bus holding on to the receipt you received from the machines. Also note that you don’t need an Express Bus Plus MetroCard since (although you can). Coins are also accepted at these machines!

However, in my opinion, the M60 isn’t always the best way to get to LGA. There can be tons of traffic along the route the M60 travels on (especially on the bridge). I would suggest taking the E or F to Roosevelt Ave station and taking the Q70 bus from there. The bus is right outside the subway station and makes no stops from Roosevelt Ave station en route to LGA (takes about eight minutes). This is almost like an express bus but it’s the price of a regular bus (you pay onboard). If you use a MetroCard, it’s a free transfer from the subway to the bus.”

Just goes to show you can’t beat local knowledge. Thanks, E, from myself and everyone else!
