Reader tip 2The Jewelry Bag
Today’s tip comes from reader Cheri C., who says:

“Before going through airplane check-in, I place all my jewelry in a special small cloth bag in my purse. The cloth bag can then be placed in the small tray. After going through check-in, the jewelry is safely together and I can wear it for remainder of trip without fear of forgetting something in the tray.”

A nice tip, and I’d even recommend sending the cloth bag through security in your carry-on or jacket pocket just to be sure no one can steal it. Thanks Cheri!

Another tip to consider regarding jewelry is to substitute valuable items with inexpensive knock offs. I never bring my expensive jewelry on travel, so if a piece is lost or stolen, my trip isn’t ruined. I have a special drawer at home where I store my “travel jewels.” Unless you need good jewelry for some special occasion while traveling, it is best to leave it safely at home.

I wear several pieces of jewelry — two watches : One that “talks” and tells me the time. One “dressy” one. Rest I leave at home in safe-keeping. Why take something that can be so easily stolen? I’ve had an earring pulled out of my ear (needed plastic surgery immediately) and a necklace pulled off my neck and stolen. Jewelry is just not NEEDED on a trip!!!!!!
