Open the window when the taxi driver is sickWhenever I jump in an Uber, Lyft or taxi, one of the first things I do is look to see if the driver is sick. If they’re visibly unwell (it’s happened), I say no thanks and get another one. If I don’t notice right away, however, and the driver starts coughing or sneezing, I immediately open the window even if it’s boiling hot or freezing cold outside. You might think this is a no-brainer, but you’d also be surprised how many of my friends tell me that they’ve ridden with a sick driver and left the window up. If the driver looks at me funny for rolling down the window, I just tell him or her I’m about to get on a plane or just got off of one and need the fresh air.

Never felt like I needed an excuse for the driver if I want to roll down a taxi, Uber, Lyft window. Often do it after a long flight just to breath “fresh air.” However, I doubt if your suggestion makes any difference. Effectively you will just move the germs around that are in the vehicle. If the driver has a virus or bacteria, you would be better off to make sure you don’t shake hands with them or allow them to handle your luggage, as the germs will be better transmitted by those means. Be sure to wipe off handles / your hands with sanitizing wipe after they handle your luggage.
