If you’re flying into or especially out of LAX on American or Delta, you’d better doublecheck your gate, since there’s a chance you might be flying out of a different terminal.
That’s because on January 31, American Airlines switched four boarding gates and its American Eagle shuttle bus gate from Terminal 6 to Terminal 5. American Airlines passengers who check in online for their flights and are assigned to Gates 50A, 50B, 52 (American Eagle bus gate), 53A, or 53B should arrive at Terminal 5. The good news is that Terminal 5 is now closer to American Airlines’ base in Terminal 4, and more easily accessible using a tunnel that connects these two terminals.
American Airlines at LAX:
- Gates 40-49: Check in at Terminal 4
- Gates 50-59: Check in at Terminal 5
- Gates 110-159: Check in at Terminal 4
The other major airline to switch is Delta Air Lines, which will temporarily add American’s vacated gates at Terminal 6 to its existing operations in that terminal. Delta passengers who check in online for their flights and are assigned to Gates 60-63, 68A, 68B, or 69B should arrive at Terminal 6. But that’s not going to last long, since Delta will eventually relocate all of its operations from its current Terminals 5 and 6 to Terminals 2 and 3, as soon as this May.
Passengers are advised to always check their flight and gate status on the flight information display boards found in each terminal:
