Surf’s up! If you hadn’t seen, on August 20, . Since we have a lot of subscribers from California, I thought it would appropriate to talk about surfboard-friendly airlines today. smartly capitalized on the California move by slashing its surfboard fee from $150-$200 to a regular checked bag fee, which is $30 for the first bag and $40 for the second (each way) on non-stop flights to and from California. But of course not all policies are the same. No one wants to get dinged with a large fee when they show up to the airport with a surfboard, when by then it’s too late to not pay. If you’re flying with a surfboard, you need pick your airline wisely.
Below are the fees that other airlines charge, . Keep in mind that some policies are only for flying with a surfboard to/from California. And as you know, policies and fees frequently change so do your research before heading to the airport.
- Alaska Airlines: $30 first checked bag fee each way ()
- American Airlines: $150 each way
- Hawaiian Airlines: $100 to and from North America and $35 inter-island ()
- Southwest Airlines: $75 each way
- Delta Air Lines: $150 each way
