Travel Tip of the Day: Don’t Wear All of Your Clothes Just to Avoid Bag Fees

Long Security LineDon’t Wear All of Your Clothes Just to Avoid Bag Fees
One of the problems with flying low-cost carriers, especially in Europe, is that their baggage fees are astronomical. I always recommend that travelers look up their airline’s baggage limits and then weigh and/or measure their bags before heading to the airport. You don’t want to arrive at the ticket counter and get hit with a huge fee.

But whatever you do, don’t do what Scottish boy band singer James McElvar did this week when he decided to . It worked until he fainted on the plane from heat exhaustion. Doctors say he’s lucky to be alive! So what are your options? Pay the fee, pack fewer things, leave old clothes behind, or get a and use their 20+ pockets to carry your things. Full disclosure: Scottevest is one of my advertisers but I wouldn’t be recommending them if I didn’t believe in their products. I’m a huge fan.

  1. I always wear my heaviest shoes and wear a coat with scarf and gloves and hat stuffed in the sleeves! I would love to have a Scottevest!

  2. +1 for Scottyvest! I have the vest which holds practically all my electronics, assorted carry-on items and gadgets. Love it.

  3. I usually wear as much as possible without overheating.

This involves my heaviest shoes (my dress shoes), a pair of pants, a safari shirt (ISo I can carry my wallet and passport in the chest pockets. Which I HIGHLY recommend.), a tie, a vest (Which also gives me extra pockets), and then a coat carried over my arm. The coat also gets used if I fly in the winter (Like last time I flew into France) but not so much in the summer.

    Keep up the good work!
